XCMG’s two bridge lifts

July 16, 2014

XCMG cranes have worked on two different bridge projects in China. The manufacturers cranes worked on the Yunmengshan Bridge on the Chaobai River and the Qingshan Railway Bridge Project at Hongshan, Wuhan.

The Yunmengshan Bridge required a steel box girder to be laid by two XCMG crawler cranes with capacities of 250t and 280t.

The hoisting operation involved a link between the Jingcheng Expressway and the Miyun Xitong Road Third Section Project and was performed by the Municipal Engineering Division of the China Railway Construction Group.

Tianjin First Crane and Hoist Engineering Company (Tianjin First) was the project's contractor.

The Yumengshan Bridge is a single-tower, self-anchored suspension bridge that stretches over the Chaobai River. Due to the large span of the bridge steel box girders were used. The contractor said that during the eight month operation the biggest challenge was the thrusting and hoisting of the steel box girders. The span of the hoisting operation reached up to 300m and the thrusting of the steel box girders was seen to be the 'bottleneck' of the entire project.

Two XCMG crawlers had to work in coordination for the construction and the operation was divided into 7 phases. Each phase saw the thrusting of 7 steel box girders that weigh around 11t. The thrusting height was up to 300m.

As part of the project XCMG stationed a service team at the project site to provide guidance, training and servicing."

The Qingshan Railway Bridge Project at Hongshan used the all terrain crane the XCMG QAY650 to lower an 80t railway bridge at using a 40m boom length.

Through good operation response and ultrafine adjustment, the machine positioned the box girder in between the pier foundations on either side.
