July 01, 2017

Today is the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland

20 years ago, Chinese government resumed its sovereignty over Hong Kong and Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region) was formally established. The past 20 years witness an inclusive, open and diverse city under the framework of “One Country Two Systems” and the stories of XCMG being involved in the construction of Hong Kong have also become quite popular among citizens.

XCMG as China’s largest construction machinery manufacturer contributes continuously to the infrastructure construction of Hong Kong which is the most dynamic city in Asia. Meanwhile, Hong Kong also provides a convenient international platform for the rapid development of XCMG.

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

The immersed tunnels of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge were joined successfully on May 2nd, 2017. The bridge is the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge connecting Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai, thus it’s called “One of the Seven Wonders in the Modern World”.

After the bridge was built and put into operation, the driving time from Hong Kong to Zhuhai will be reduced from the present three hours to merely half an hour. As the longest sea-crossing bridge that has the largest investment and most construction difficulty in China’s construction history, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will connect Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the world’s most dynamic economic zone, and promote economic and social integration of the three regions. XCMG’s several products such as crawler crane, pump truck and aerial platform truck had been used for the construction of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Victoria Harbor

As one of the world’s top three natural harbors, Victoria Harbor is a seaport situated between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Peninsula. Because of the width and depth of the water, Victoria Harbor is a good natural harbor, thus helping Hong Kong to be widely known as the “Pearl of the Orient” and one of the “The World’s Three Night”.

As the largest tonnage crawler crane entering Hong Kong from the mainland, XCMG’s 260-ton crawler crane has played an important role in the tunnel reclamation project at Victoria harbor.

Hong Kong Metro

As a window of Mainland China facing the world, Hong Kong is planning a number of rail transit projects. Hong Kong Metro is a quick, safe and reliable mass transit network covering the central area of Hong Kong and connecting the mainland and Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Liantang Port

With construction commenced in 2013, Liantang Port is a port located at the junction between Shenzhen of Guangdong Province and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The construction of Liantang Port was carried out smoothly. At present, some works of passenger inspection building have been completed. It is expected to be put into operation in 2018.

In September 2008, the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Municipal Government of Shenzhen jointly announced that a new port would be built northeast to New Territories of Hong Kong and at Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai in Luohu District of Shenzhen to serve cross-boundary freight and passenger transportation between Hong Kong and Eastern Shenzhen. Several excavators of XCMG are involved in the construction to contribute to the connection between Hong Kong and Mainland China.

The scenes of Hong Kong’s return to Mainland China in 1997 are still vivid in our mind. 20 years have passed in a flash. In the past 20 years after Hong Kong returned to the motherland, economic cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland has become increasingly frequent and their distance has become increasingly closer through the joint efforts of both Hong Kong and the mainland!

The prosperity and stability of Hong Kong provide guarantee for XCMG to work hard in Hong Kong and the proposal of “B & R” Initiatives bring more opportunities. XCMG will continue to put efforts in Hong Kong, take the lead in making unremitting changes and innovations in order to achieve the vision of world-class enterprise and the great industrial ambition of “Reaching the Peak of Mount Everest”, and fulfill the responsibilities and undertakings of industry leader.
